This is quite possibly my most favourite weekend of the year! On which other weekend do you get to sing along to awesomely bad holiday music and dress your house with all manner of sparkly and wonderfully tacky decorations? The weekend we decorate the house is definitely one of our favourite family traditions and after a day of fun we tuck into a finger buffet of tasty treats washed down with copious amounts of homemade Eggnog.
Eggnog is hugely popular in America but, did you know, it actually originates from a British medieval drink called ‘Posset’, which was a hot, milky, ale-like drink made with egg and figs that our 13th century monks invented.
There are several different recipes around for Eggnog, but my recipe is super, super easy (no messing about with raw eggs) and quick to make and it tastes delicious too!
A good dash of Advocaat.
Splash of Cinnamon Syrup (If you prefer you can use Caramel Syrup).
Enough hot semi-skimmed milk to fill your glass.
A pinch of nutmeg.
Heat the milk in a microwavable jug for 2 minutes on the highest setting so it is piping hot.
Pour a nice sized measure of Advocaat into your glass, followed by a dash of cinnamon syrup. Fill the remainder of the glass with the hot milk. Squirt on the cream and finish with a sprinkling of nutmeg and a little caramel sauce. If you are feeling really indulgent you can also line your glass with some caramel sauce before you start! 😋
